2023 SNAC Doctorate in Nursing Scholarship Application

Brief Description:

The Suncoast Nursing Action Coalition (SNAC) is dedicated to helping advance nurses in the SNAC region (Sarasota, Manatee, DeSoto, and Charlotte Counties).  This scholarship provides financial support for current nursing faculty in the Suncoast Nursing Action Coalition (SNAC) region (Sarasota, Charlotte, Manatee, & Desoto Counties) who are pursuing a doctoral degree in nursing. The goal is to increase the number of doctoral prepared faculty who are qualified to teach in the SNAC region’s bachelor’s in nursing (BSN) programs.

Description:

The Suncoast Nursing Action Coalition (SNAC) is dedicated to helping advance nurses in the SNAC region (Sarasota, Manatee, DeSoto, and Charlotte Counties).  This scholarship provides financial support for current nursing faculty in the SNAC region (Sarasota, Charlotte, Manatee, & Desoto Counties) who are pursuing a doctoral degree in nursing. The goal is to increase the number of doctoral prepared faculty who are qualified to teach in the SNAC region’s bachelor’s in nursing (BSN) programs.

Candidates must be currently employed full or part time as faculty at an accredited program in nursing in the SNAC region at teh time of application.  Eligible employment includes: State College of Florida, Keiser University (Sarasota), University of South Florida (Sarasota-Manatee), or Galen College (Sarasota).  Candidates must be nominated by the Dean or Director of the college/university that you teach at.

The amount awarded per person may vary and is at the discretion of the SNAC selection committee. Award amounts will be based on individual need as determined by documented sources of support (e.g. scholarships, tuition reimbursement). Award amounts are capped at no more than $20,000 per person with an average award amount around $16,000. Due to the amount awarded per person, previous SNAC Doctoral Nursing Scholarship recipients are not eligible to reapply for additional funding above and beyond their initial award amount. Scholarship selection is competitive and not guaranteed for any individual applicant. If selected to receive a scholarship, the award amount will be distributed over the course of your program (not in one lump sum) and will be disbursed directly to the university where you will be obtaining your doctoral degree provide that you supply evidence of continued enrollment.

Application Information:

This application is only available to students who:

  1. Currently have a master's degree in nursing.
  2. Currently employed full or part time in an accredited program in nursing in the SNAC region at the time of application. Eligible employment include: State College of Florida, Keiser University (Sarasota), University of South Florida (Sarasota-Manatee), or Galen College (Sarasota).
  3. Be nominated by the Dean or Director of your the college/university that you teach at.
  4. Have submitted an application for acceptance or have been accepted into a nursing doctoral program (PhD or DNP).  *Will need to show proof of acceptance and enrollment prior to disbursement.
  5. Purse a doctoral degree in Nursing on a full or part time basis.
  6. Intend to work in a nursing program within the SNAC region for at least 2 years after completion of the doctoral degree.
  7. Agree to complete a scholarship interview as requested by the scholarship committee.

*No other students should apply using this form as all ineligible applications will be automatically denied.


After You Submit Your Application:
  1. After you submit your application, you will receive an automatic email from admin@communityforce.com.  Your uploaded documents will be checked in by Community Foundation of Sarasota County staff within two weeks of you submitting your application.  If any document is incorrect or missing information you will be contacted via email from admin@communityforce.com or scholarships@cfsarasota.org.  These emails and the time to correct issues are time sensitive so we recommend checking your email at least twice a week for two weeks after you submit it as it can take up to two weeks to check in application documents.  If you do not hear about document issues from our staff by March 1st your application is complete.
  2. One scholarship fund requires additional information after submission.  Any contact for additional information for this scholarship fund will be via email and take place in late March.  Email communications will come from scholarships@cfsarasota.org.
  3. All scholarship determinations will be finalized April 30th.  You will be contacted via email by scholarships@cfsarasota.org on April 30th with scholarship determinations.

SNAC achieves its vision and mission by engaging the health care employers (hospitals, nursing homes, and public health agencies), academics (organizations training nurses), and the community in a collaborative effort to address and achieve identified goals. It’s primary goals are:
 
•  Increase the number and proportion of nurses with a BSN degree. 
•  Fulfill the faculty needs to teach the next generation of nurses by increasing the number and percentage of nurses with a doctorate (Ph.D./DNP/DNSc).
•  Facilitate academic progression of all nurses.
